Lyude, Rennes School of Business Student, FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019™ Volunteer

Lyude is in the second year of the PGE (Master in Management Programme – 28th Promotion alias “P28”). She is from Zhongxiang in Hubei province (China) and she studied at Zhongnan University of Economics and Law (ZUEL), a partner university of Rennes School of Business in Wuhan, the capital city of Hubei province. Lyude is actually doing an internship in France as well as preparing for the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019™ Volunteer Programme. We asked her some questions about her participation in this world event which will take place in France and partly in Rennes.

Why do you volunteer?

Recently, I participated in hosting the welcoming ceremony for China Women’s Football Team. Their first match against Germany in this year’s World Cup will take place in Rennes. Actually, I was so thrilled when I was told that I could be part of the welcoming ceremony for China’s Team. It’s like a dream for me to meet those players in the flesh and cheer for them.
I always love volunteering and happened to find this volunteer opportunity, by chance on the FIFA website several months before I came to France to study. Luckily, Rennes is one of the 9 host cities. So I applied on FIFA’s official website and here I am, officially becoming a volunteer of the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019 in Rennes.

What motivates you in sports volunteering? And in being a volunteer for this world cup?

For a very long time, I have been a huge fan for all kinds of sports (but mostly watching them). Volunteering for sports events gives me a chance to be really involved in it and feel the vibe and atmosphere both from players and from audiences. When I studied in China, I volunteered for several sports events, such as a tennis tournament and really enjoyed it. The passion and love for sports and volunteer service motivates me to be a volunteer. Only imagining the joyful and thrilling moments on and off the court excites me. I am fascinated by the charm of sports.

What do you think this experience can bring to your resume?

This volunteer service experience could be a plus on my resume, because when you volunteer for an international event, it gives you a broader vision of the world and how you see people from different backgrounds as well as how you communicate with them. More importantly, having an international and global perspective is so crucial in today’s world that we cannot ignore it, especially in business. It is inevitable to deal with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, so we must have the ability to cope with cultural diversity and language issues.
