Community life at Rennes School of Business: 20+ associations for a unique experience
Community involvement is an integral part of the student experience at Rennes SB. Each student on the Master in Management joins one of the school’s associations. Students on the BiM programme can get involved in the BVE in their first year.

The Associations
Working in teams, managing, developing, and managing projects in a very operational context close to the reality of the business world is what students experience within the associations of Rennes SB. They put into practice their theoretical knowledge of management and business management acquired in the classroom. They can also count on a dedicated team of school staff to provide support, advice and guidance. This student experience is an integral part of the Master in Management programme.
The associations of Rennes School of Business are divided into five areas of activity:
- Arts and culture

Pierre Le Maire, former president of the Students’ Union, shares his feedback with us:
“Associations, within a business school like Rennes School of Business, are fundamental for a student to be able to fully develop. It is a question of a union of students, who have a common interest, who move forward together, and who work together on different projects. Firstly, this brings them together from a social point of view, as they are the people with whom the individual in question will spend most of their future years. I think that associations allow you to create real ‘families’. They also allow you to mature, to give more responsibility to people who need it. It’s giving future managers the opportunity to manage the organisation of an event from A to Z. In particular, they learn to work in a group by favouring permanent communication, whether it is internal or external to the association.”
Learning by Doing, a New Learning Model
The Learning by Doing pedagogy is based on 3 pillars:
- Learning by Experimenting
Students are encouraged to join a Rennes SB association where they can experiment by discovering a new skill or sector. By acting on behalf of a school association, students directly contribute to the identity of the school and help enhance its reputation. - Learning by Working
Students can enhance their student job by sharing their expertise in a specific area with their association. - Learning by Serving
Students can do volunteer work for a non-profit organisation outside the school that is related to the missions and objectives of their association. In this way, students participate in the life of the territory and its communities, and act as ambassadors for the school.
According to Elodie Huré, Dean of Programmes: “Learning by doing is essential at the school and particularly within the Grande Ecole Programme. We are very careful to create a context in which students can take responsibility, learn by doing and also express their values and develop their curiosity. This pedagogy, which is embodied in Learning by Doing, is also an opportunity for many to refine their professional project by better understanding what they like to do and what they excel at.”
The BVE, the Association Dedicated to Bachelor Students
The BVE (Student Life Office) is the main association of the Bachelor programmes. It is responsible for organising all Bachelor student events, including cultural and sporting activities, as well as the induction day and events that take place during the admissions period.
It organises cross-programme or cross-promotion activities to strengthen cohesion among the student community of Rennes SB.
“Being part of an association or club at the school will give you the chance to live a rewarding experience, make new connections, enjoy unforgettable moments, and also add a valuable line to your CV. … In this way, the associative experience proves to be a real accelerator for personal and professional development.“, Gwenaëlle Delahaie, coordinator of the association centre.
