A visit to Artefacto: students from Rennes SB learn to lead companies through digital transformation
Students from the MSc in Digital Marketing Management, with a specialisation in Immersive Design, recently visited Artefacto—a leading company in augmented and virtual reality. This collaboration marks a bold step into the future of marketing, bridging cutting-edge technology with real-world business applications.

As technology rapidly transforms how businesses interact with customers and train their teams, Rennes School of Business is preparing its students to lead this digital evolution. The MSc in Digital Marketing Management (DMM), with its specialisation in Immersive Design, exemplifies this vision. Designed to bridge the gap between gaming technology and the industrial world, the programme empowers students to apply emerging tools like virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) to solve real business challenges.
This innovative approach was brought to life during a recent visit to Artefacto, a Rennes-based tech company at the forefront of immersive solutions. Founded and led by Valérie Cottereau, Artefacto works across multiple sectors—developing AR/VR tools for clients ranging from recycling centres and construction firms to police training units and medical rehabilitation providers.
Valérie Cottereau shared the company’s mission with students: “Our aim with this master’s programme is to train students who will be able to manage these projects and lead businesses in this field, delivering the best possible outcomes for industries, with concrete examples.”

Throughout the visit, students explored real-life applications of immersive technology. They tested virtual reality headsets used to simulate high-pressure police scenarios, discovered how AR tools assist flooring professionals in accurately measuring and installing materials, and learned how AR catalogues are revolutionising client presentations in sales.
One of the most forward-looking projects presented involved geolocated AR, enabling clients to visualise the placement of wind turbines or solar panels on-site using GPS-linked tablets. This practical application of immersive design is a game-changer for both project planning and stakeholder engagement.
For Élise and Nadia, students in the DMM programme, the visit brought the potential of immersive design into sharp focus. “Artefacto carries out projects for companies, and we were able to test some of them,” they explained. “It’s a great way to understand what we want in real life through AR technology.”
This partnership not only strengthens ties between Rennes SB and a local tech leader but also ensures that students gain invaluable hands-on experience. As industries increasingly rely on immersive technology for training, marketing, and customer engagement, graduates of this unique programme are set to become highly sought-after digital pioneers.
By embedding real-world learning into the curriculum, the MSc in Digital Marketing Management with Immersive Design offers a concrete and visionary pathway for students to become leaders in the digital landscape.
