Harnessing Klaxoon: how Öncü Hazir leads in interactive teaching at Rennes School of Business
Öncü is a professor in the Supply Chain Management and Information Systems department at Rennes School of Business. He has fully embraced the interactive tool Klaxoon, which is available to all the school’s faculty. Today, Öncü is the most frequent user of Klaxoon in his teaching practices. He tells us a bit more about how he uses the tool in class.
Professor Öncü Hazir, of the Supply Chain Management and Information Systems department at Rennes School of Business, wholeheartedly endorses the Klaxoon interactive tool available to the Faculty. As the most active user of Klaxoon in his teaching practices, Professor Hazir details his approach:
“I use active and collaborative teaching methods in my courses, covering a range of management problems. Students work in groups, refer to course material, discuss topics, and solve
problems. Case studies entail detailed analysis to nurture team working skills. Periodically during class, I integrate short exercises or Klaxoon activities of 10-15 minutes. I have developed a gamified module on Klaxoon called the ‘adventures,’ featuring fill-in-the-blank, matching, and categorizing questions. The question complexity aligns with the program level — be it undergraduate, Masters, or Executive Education, where Klaxoon finds utility.
Case studies and real-life examples aid students’ comprehension of concepts. Teamwork fosters a dynamic class environment. Students appreciate Klaxoon exercises for their fun and educational value, providing opportunities to discover and internalize concepts swiftly due to the platform’s user-friendly nature.
While I regard Klaxoon as crucial for learning activities, I advocate for its integration with other tools and methods. I combine Klaxoon with Moodle quizzes, discussion assignments, and case study presentations. Educators are encouraged to diversify Klaxoon activities, focusing on gamified modules with diverse question types beyond multiple-choice. To sustain student interest, brief (up to 15 minutes) Klaxoon exercises are preferable to maintain engagement and effectiveness without shifting focus from practice and learning activities.
In summary, while Klaxoon is instrumental in supporting learning activities, it should complement a broader educational toolset. My teaching philosophy revolves around incorporating various activities on Klaxoon, particularly gamified modules, to enrich student learning experiences. By not using Klaxoon for assessment but as a tool for practice and learning, students are empowered to freely engage in discussions, reference course materials, and explore resources.”
