A look back at the POMS 2023 international conference: an international event for the Rennes School of Business research centres

From 18 to 20 July 2023, Rennes School of Business hosted the POMS international conference in Paris. The programme included conferences and special sessions on the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The aim of the POMS (Production and Operations Management Society) organisation is to extend and integrate knowledge to improve the understanding and practice of POM (Production and Operations Management) and to disseminate its information to managers, researchers and experts, as well as to the general public, students and government bodies.

This year, the international POMS conference was held in Paris, at the NewCap Event Center, organised by Rennes School of Business, with the support of Lancaster University Leipzig (Germany) and INSEAD (France). Over 450 participants from 36 countries attended the event. The School’s participation in this international meeting was a great opportunity for the various researchers and research centres at Rennes SB to discuss and collaborate with other world-renowned peers. It brought together researchers and specialists from different fields to discuss and share ideas and discoveries on a single subject: sustainable development.

A conference on the theme of the Sustainable Development Goals

The theme of the 2023 conference was “Operations Management & United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals”. More than a dozen topics were covered over the three days, with a focus on the United Nation’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals, including:

  • New Business Models and Operations Innovation,
  • Sustainable Operations,
  • Disaster Management,
  • Not-For-Profit Operations Management.

Special sessions were also held:

  • Equitable and human working conditions in supply chain, with Felix Paper and Chris Tang
  • Disrupting human trafficking and illicit markets, with Michel Fathi
  • Supply chain social sustainability (SCSS) and modern slavery, with Maryam Lotfi

Discovering Paris from a different perspective

Participants were able to discover the French capital from a different angle at the gala held on the evening of 19 July aboard the River Palace boat on the Seine. They had the opportunity to meet and network in a more informal setting, while discovering the most famous monuments of Paris.
